Is Green Tea Good to Prevent Your Hair Fall?

  • 4 min. read

Luscious and long hair is every woman’s dream. However, people start experiencing hair fall with increasing dirt, pollution, and dust. With pollution and harsh environmental factors, your hair starts getting brittle and damaged. It sounds quite disheartening.

But don’t worry! We have got a perfect hair fall treatment for your biggest problem. Well, the easiest remedy for hair loss is green tea.

Green tea is a popular antioxidant-rich and healthy beverage. Most antioxidants found in green tea are compounds called flavonols. The catechins are one of the most renowned flavanols enhancing the effectiveness of green tea as a hair fall treatment.

What is Green Tea?

Green tea finds its origin in China. The green tea leaves are made from Camellia Sinensis buds and leaves that don’t undergo oxidation and withering. There are various types of green tea classified based on different varieties of C sinensis, horticultural methods, growing conditions, time of harvesting, and production process.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is strong catechin, often found in green tea. It has many benefits, such as reducing the risk of certain cancers, heart disease, and other health conditions, such as hair fall.

What are the Benefits of Green Tea to Prevent Hair Fall?

The following are some major benefits of green tea to prevent hair fall:

1. Boosts Hair Growth

According to certain studies, green tea helps support hair fall treatment. For instance, one study shows that when researchers applied topical EGCG extract on the scalp of the people with alopecia, they observed a significant hair growth after four days.

EGCG helps enhance hair growth in people with hormone-related hair fall. Hair growth happens due to the stimulation of hair follicles while preventing hair fall and skin damage.

2. Prevents Hair Loss

Hair fall is a common hair issue that may happen due to different reasons like stress, autoimmune diseases, hormonal changes, and an imbalanced diet. The natural hair growth cycle includes three phases – androgen (hair growth phase, telogen (hair loss phase), and catagen (transitional phase). But this hair cycle gets disturbed due to excessive hair loss.

The hormones dihydrotestosterone and testosterone can enhance hair loss by decreasing hair growth phase duration. As per studies in this field, antioxidants found in green tea may hinder the effects of two hair growth-related hormones and slow down the hair loss process.

3. Enhances Nutrient Delivery to Hair

According to the best hair fall clinic, hair is part of the integumentary system, including skin, nails, and hair. Hair grows from your skin, where it gets enough blood flow and much-needed nutrition at the growth stage.

According to a study on 15 participants (controlled group), researchers observed that consuming green tea supplements for 12 weeks can increase blood flow and oxygen delivery in the skin by 29%. Compared to the control group, the group with green tea consumption showed significant improvement in the skin's hydration. Another group in a similar study observed around 30 participants drinking 4 cups of green tea for 12 weeks.

Hair growth is majorly related to nutrient delivery and oxygen to your skin. So, poor blood circulation may lead to hair fall. So, drinking green tea increases the supply of nutrients to your scalp while improving hair growth.

How to Use Green Tea for Hair?

One of the best ways for hair fall treatment in Dubai can be the addition of green tea or its subsidiary products in your routine. Here are some vital ways to use green tea for promoting hair growth:

1. Green Tea Rinse

Brew some green tea bags in around half a litre of water for 15 minutes. Once the tea has seeped, let it cool and rest for about 10 minutes. Once it's not hot to touch, you can use it to rinse your hair after a mild wash with shampoo. Alternatively, you can even take the green tea leaves and massage it onto your scalp. Follow it with a quick rinse with cold water. This process can be repeated twice or thrice a week.

2. DIY Green Tea Hair Mask

Take two tablespoons of green tea and mix in with 1 tablespoon olive oil and one tablespoon of coconut oil. You may even add egg yolk into this mixture. Further, mix it perfectly and apply the mask to your scalp and hair. Keep this hair mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, and then wash your hair.

3. Green Tea Hair Spray

You can make green tea hair spray for styling or even protecting your hair while styling. For making this spray, you need equal amounts of Aloe Vera gel and green tea in a bottle. You may also add a few drops of essential oil if you like. Further, spray it all over your hair before you style it. This spray works wonders to protect hair from dirt, dust, and other damage.

4. Green Tea Shampoo

You can consider using shampoo containing green tea extract. Ensure that you apply the shampoo to your scalp and roots while scrubbing it gently.

5. Green Tea Conditioner

Also, consider applying green tea conditioner to your hair shafts and tips. Leave it on for 3 to 10 minutes, and after that, rinse your hair with water.

6. Green Tea with Aloe Vera

You may even use green tea with Aloe Vera for hair nourishment. Mix Aloe Vera with your green tea to apply the mixture to your hair. So, take the mixture and massage it on your hair and scalp gently. Keep it on your hair for 10 minutes, and then wash your hair thoroughly.

7. Green Tea with Coconut Oil

Consider mixing green tea with organic coconut oil for added benefits to your hair. The mixture can make hair healthy while preventing hair fall. You may apply this mixture to your scalp and hair. Further, keep the mixture on your hair and scalp for half an hour, and then wash your hair with normal water. For best results, you can apply this mixture three times a week.

What are the Possible Side Effects?

Although it is safe to have green tea, many green tea supplements and oils contain a comparatively higher quantity of EGCG. The high amount of EGCG can lead to serious health issues, such as liver toxicity and upset stomach. So, it would help if you were cautious while consuming a high dose of green tea supplements. You must consult your healthcare provider before taking any green tea supplement.

Having green tea and using products containing green tea extracts is an effective and natural way to decrease your hair loss rate. It also helps you boost hair growth. Suppose you are still experiencing hair loss despite using the best possible hair care products. In that case, you have to contact a professional hair fall clinic to find out any underlying medical condition.

Does Drinking Green Tea Help Prevent Hair Fall?

While there is ample research on green tea and its health effects, there is still little evidence to prove that drinking green tea can have any effect on your hair.

However, there is much chat about green tea and its effect on stopping hair loss. The catechins found in the extracts of green tea are believed to have 5-alpha-reductase preventing properties. DHT is a substance that leads to hair loss in women and men and is often repressed to avoid hair fall. Some recent studies also suggest that green tea’s anti-inflammatory properties are associated with hair growth.

Does green tea suppress DHT to prevent hair loss or simply help hair growth? As per a study conducted on mice with hair loss, researchers have highlighted that hair loss slows down after mice start consuming green tea in their regular drinking water. It is observed that green tea helps trigger the growth of new hair follicles. In the study, a group of mice that didn’t have green tea was seen to have continuous hair loss.

One of the common causes that lead to hair fall is stress. Green tea is also known for its anti-stress properties, and it even helps deal with anxiety. If you consume green tea regularly, it can help you deal with stress & anxiety and, in turn, reduce your hair fall too!

Some studies have also shown how green tea helps in reducing hair loss due to its positive effects. However, one must note that humans don't function the same as mice, so the results won't be the same. Thus, to have a definitive answer to your natural hair growth remedies, more studies need to be done on green tea and its impact on hair growth.

But you can include green tea in your diet and see the results yourself, as it’s not harmful to have green tea daily.

Conclusion

Green tea is a healthy beverage with antioxidant properties. Consuming it and using hair care products containing green tea extracts may reduce the risk of hair fall. It can even help promote hair regrowth.

If you are looking to buy green tea hair products, you can get them in stores or online. But make sure to apply those products per the instructions on the product bottle. You can even consider rinsing hair with brewed green tea after shampoo and conditioning of hair.

If you only have to consume green tea, you can have around 3-4 cups daily. However, if you want to use green tea supplements or oils for hair fall treatment, make sure to consult a healthcare professional first. They will guide you and suggest the best hair loss solutions. Or you may simply look for a professional hair fall clinic to get the best hair fall treatment in Dubai.

It took me 1 Year to decide whether I wanted to go through with the hair restoration procedure using a Natural Looking Hair piece. I did a lot of research and consulted with many people who had done the procedure.

I was convinced to go ahead due to the information session / in-depth knowledge and the excellent customer service skills of Sanjay- the manager.

I did the procedure 1 month ago and I can honestly say that it was the best decision ever. Advanced Hair Studio provides the best quality for the Hair Pieces. The staff takes the time to understand what you are looking for as a customer. They style your hair based on your facial structure and I must truly admit that their stylists are pure Artists! My favourite stylist is Mohamad from Lebanon. He does magic with his hands and I am always thrilled with the new styles/ suggestions he provides.

I must admit that AHS is on the more expensive side if you were to consider the other competitors in Dubai. However, it is all worth every penny spent! You will not regret it.

Do not over think it. Just go ahead an do the procedure. You will evolve into a whole new person! Believe me! :-)

I started losing my hair in my mid-twenties and in spite of trying all sorts of treatments it gradually got worse and worse. By my late twenties I started cutting my hair short. Whenever I tried to grow it, it used to look a mess and was impossible to style because of my receding and thinning. I was looking at doing a hair transplant for a while, but I kept delaying it in hope that there was some alternative.

When I was in my mid-thirties I first came across AHS. I was a bit skeptical but I thought I’d find out what they could do. I was expecting a sales pitch but what I learned about hair loss and hair restoration from them was presented in a straightforward and logical way, without lots of medical terminology. They take time to explain the root cause of the problem and explore all the different treatments.

I decided to go ahead with the treatment and as it turns out, having AHS fix my hair was one of the best decisions I ever made. I still cannot believe how good my results are. I just wish I’d done it 10 years earlier rather than wasting so much time (and hair!). I would urge anyone who is thinking of doing something to check them out.
